John Shadegg called out Bob Lord yesterday for pulling out of the Channel 10 debate scheduled for this week. Lord responded by complaining Shadegg never agreed to a joint appearance at an HOA group in Sunnyslope. From PolitickerAZ:
“Arizonans want to see candidates participating in open, honest discussions, not engaging in negative partisan attacks paid for by Nancy Pelosi and Washington liberals,” said Shadegg in the release.
“My opponent and the DCCC are airing thousands of false TV ads attacking me, yet Mr. Lord refuses to debate me face-to-face, claiming he’s too busy,” Shadegg continued. “As the Representative of the 3rd District of Arizona for the past 14 years, I have never been too busy to explain my positions to my constituents.”
Lord’s campaign manager, mad professor Andrew Eldredge-Martin, responded:
Eldredge-Martin said, “We never agreed to a debate on Fox 10 and Shadegg knows it. We have a tight schedule and less than two weeks left in our campaign for change.”
He also said it was Shadegg who declined to debate.
“We attempted for weeks in September to get him to agree to a third debate in front of a crowd with the Sunnyslope Village Alliance,” said Eldredge-Martin. “He declined, citing scheduling conflicts.“
A Channel 10 debate would represent a high-profile, maximum-viewership hit with a neutral moderator, John Hook. A joint appearance at Sunnyslope Village Alliance would be a partisan stop in a single neighborhood. Partisan because Sunnyslope Village Alliance president, Jim Mapstead, has endorsed Lord.
